Summary: A dad in Chennai won a court battle to get his ex-wife, P. Harshini, to sign a passport application so their daughter can visit NASA.
On December 5, 2025, the Madras High Court, led by Judge P. Dhanabal, heard a case about a 13-year-old girl named Akshara. Her dad, B.B. Prabhu Raj, wanted her to go on a school trip to NASA in the USA. But there was a problem: both parents needed to sign her passport application.
Akshara's school, Don Bosco School of Excellence in Egmore, Chennai, sent a note to the parents about the NASA trip. Akshara was excited to go because she loves space science. But her mom, P. Harshini, wasn't signing the application. So, B.B. Prabhu Raj went to court to get things moving.
"Young Akshara was eager to reach NASA, as she is interested in Space Science," said the court document.
P. Harshini argued that Akshara wasn't ready to handle such a big trip alone. She strongly opposed the idea and didn't want to sign the papers.
After hearing both sides, Judge Dhanabal decided that Akshara should not miss this opportunity. The court noted that B.B. Prabhu Raj and P. Harshini were in a custody battle, but that shouldn't stop Akshara from going to NASA.
The court ordered P. Harshini to sign the passport application by December 9, 2025. If she didn't, the passport office could proceed without her signature.
"The respondent is directed to help with signing the application for passport and VISA for Young Akshara," the court ordered.
This decision was a big win for Akshara and B.B. Prabhu Raj, making it possible for her to chase her dreams of exploring space at NASA.
