On February 26, 2026, the Madras High Court confirmed that Madhesh, Kalaivani, and Prema will continue to serve life sentences for the brutal murders of Ramajayam and Illayaraja in Krishnagiri District. The court found the evidence against them to be very strong, supporting the decision made on July 31, 2019.
The problem started because of a disagreement over land involving a sale agreement with M.R. Raja, the grandfather of one of the accused. On June 24, 2010, during a religious ceremony on the disputed land, a violent fight broke out. Witnesses, including Ramajayam's wife, Chandra (PW1), said that the accused attacked with a sharp tool, killing Ramajayam and Illayaraja.
"Madhesh attacked Illayaraja on his neck with a sharp tool," testified Chandra.
The prosecution presented a strong case with many witnesses and scientific evidence. The statements from Chandra and other witnesses were important because they directly saw the attack. The medical evidence matched the witness accounts, confirming that the cause of death was severe neck injuries.
The defense argued that there were delays in reporting the crime and inconsistencies in witness statements. They claimed the weapon wasn't properly connected to the accused. However, the court found these arguments not strong enough to change the decision.
Judges P. Velmurugan and M. Jothiraman decided that the evidence presented was believable and the accused were correctly found guilty. They pointed out the planned nature of the crime and the clear intention to kill.
"The way the attack was carried out, the recovery of the weapon, and the important parts targeted leave no room for doubt," the judgment stated.
The court's decision shows a careful look at the evidence and a commitment to justice for the victims. The accused will continue to serve their life sentences, making sure they are held accountable for their actions.
This case highlights the serious consequences of violent disputes and the legal system's role in dealing with such serious crimes.
