On January 31, 2026, the Delhi High Court turned down Mohd. Jabir's request to be let out on bail in a drug case from 2020. Here's what happened.
On October 27, 2020, around 9:45 PM, Mohd. Jabir was caught in the act at Bhalswa Chowk, Delhi. The Narcotics Cell got a tip about a drug deal involving him and another person, Wasim. They were found with 500g of heroin each, which is a lot!
"Both Wasim and the applicant were caught," the judgment states.
The charges were officially made on May 23, 2022, under the drug laws. Mohd. Jabir got bail on March 28, 2023, but it was canceled by the Supreme Court on December 2, 2024.
Mohd. Jabir's lawyer argued he should get bail because the trial was taking too long, not because of anything he did. But the court didn't agree. They noted that 8 out of 15 witnesses had already been heard, and the trial was moving forward.
"The applicant is not allowed to be released on bail," the court said.
The court also mentioned that Mohd. Jabir was previously let out on bail for another drug case from 2019. This made them worry he might keep doing illegal stuff if let out.
Justice Saurabh Banerjee decided that Mohd. Jabir didn't meet the conditions needed for bail. The court wants the trial to finish quickly, but for now, Mohd. Jabir stays in jail.
