Quick Summary: Sahithi Kommidi, a 19-year-old student from Telangana, faced hurdles in her MBBS admission process due to missing a crucial deadline. The court has now given her a chance to appeal.
Sahithi Kommidi, aiming for an MBBS seat under the management quota for 2025-26, missed the online choice submission deadline because she was sick. Even though she registered and paid the fee, she couldn't finish the process by 2:00 p.m. on September 24, 2025.
The Kaloji Nararayana Rao University of Health Sciences had a strict rule: if you miss the first phase of online choices, you can't participate in the next rounds. This rule is to prevent "seat blocking," where students hold spots without committing.
"Candidates in the final merit list who do not make their choices in the first phase of counseling shall not be eligible for the next phase."
Sahithi's lawyer, Mr. Abdul Kabeer, argued that the university should take her situation into account. However, the university's lawyer, Mr. T. Sharath, emphasized that only those who took part in the first round could register again.
The Chief Justice Sri Aparesh Kumar Singh and Justice G.M. Mohiuddin listened to the case. They decided that Sahithi could submit a request to the university. If accepted, she might still have a chance to get a seat in the final round of admissions.
"The petitioner is allowed to make a request... the University would consider it according to the rules within two days."
If the university accepts her request, Sahithi could still be considered for any leftover seats. The court made it clear they haven’t made a final judgment on the case, leaving the decision to the university.
