Quick Summary: In an unexpected turn from Panruti, Cuddalore District, the High Court changed a decision that allowed Dhanalakshmi to drop a long-running property case. The court decided the case should continue as it is.
Back in 2008, Mrs. Jagaratchagi filed a case against several family members, including Dhanalakshmi. The case was about disagreements over family land in Sedunthankuppam Village, with Jagaratchagi claiming she deserved a fair share of the family property.
The land in question, 1 Acre and 60 Cents in Survey No.97/1, was originally given to Jagaratchagi’s parents by the government in 1994. These lands were intended for the whole family, but Jagaratchagi claimed her share was unfairly sold.
Even though there were rules against selling the land, parts of it were sold to defendants 4 and 7. Jagaratchagi wanted these sales canceled to claim her 1/6th share. However, the defendants argued that the sales were valid, having bought the land from the rightful owners.
In July 2023, Jagaratchagi wanted to drop the case, saying there were mistakes and missing people involved. The Trial Court agreed, allowing her to start over. But Dhanalakshmi was not happy and took the issue to the High Court.
Justice R. Sakthivel, on February 24, 2026, decided that Jagaratchagi could change her case instead of starting from scratch. The court said the current case should go on, allowing changes if needed.
"The reasons given by the plaintiff are not convincing," noted Justice Sakthivel.
The Trial Court in Panruti will now continue with the original case, making sure everyone involved gets to share their side. As for costs, none were ordered, keeping the financial burden light for all involved.
