Quick Summary: A court case in Telangana is about a land classification issue. Smt. Kosgi Musti Janaki wanted her land labeled as "patta" instead of "Laoni patta." The court explained why it stayed as "Laoni patta."
Smt. Kosgi Musti Janaki, a 72-year-old widow, owns a piece of land in Siddulur Paiga Village, Vikarabad. This land was originally given to her late husband, a former soldier, back in 1993. After he passed away in 2021, she inherited the land and got her name on the official records.
Janaki applied online to fix what she thought was a mistake in the land records. She wanted the classification changed from "Laoni patta" to just "patta." But, despite her application, the officials didn’t make the change, which led her to file a legal request.
Judge K. Lakshman explained that the land was correctly labeled as "Laoni patta" because it was given under the Laoni Rules of 1950. So, the officials were right in keeping it that way in the records.
Janaki wanted to sell the land using benefits from two government orders (G.O.Ms.No.1117 and G.O.Ms.No.279). These orders allow former soldiers to sell their assigned land after ten years without needing a No Objection Certificate (NOC). However, the local officials still asked her for an NOC.
The court decided that Janaki couldn't change the land classification. However, if officials insisted on an NOC, she could use the government orders to her advantage.
The case was closed without any additional costs, leaving Janaki with a clear understanding of her land's status and her rights.
