Here's a cool story from the Bombay High Court where two young guys, Sushant and Sahil, got a second chance in their dream to join the Central Armed Police Forces. Let’s break it down!
Sushant and Sahil, both 21, wanted to be part of the Central Armed Police Forces. They passed the initial computer-based test but hit a roadblock during the Physical Standard Test (PST). Their heights were just a teeny bit below the required 165 cm—Sushant was 164.7 cm and Sahil was 164.6 cm. Because of this, they were disqualified.
The two filed requests, asking the court to round up their heights as per some guidelines from 2015. Their lawyer, Mr. V. A. Shastry, argued that heights should be rounded up if they are 0.5 cm or more, according to these guidelines. He mentioned similar cases from other high courts to support his point.
"Fraction of cm less than 0.5 will be ignored and 0.5 cm & more will be rounded off to the next higher cm."
Judges Ravindra V. Ghuge and Ashwin D. Bhobe were in charge. They agreed with Sushant and Sahil, saying that the rounding rule should apply at the PST stage itself. They found it unfair and random to disqualify them based on such a small height difference.
The court allowed the requests and directed the authorities to consider both Sushant and Sahil eligible for the next stage, the Detailed Medical Examination. This means they get another shot at joining the forces!
This decision shows how important it is to apply rules fairly. A small technicality shouldn't stop someone from achieving their dreams, especially when guidelines say otherwise.
Sushant and Sahil are back in the game, thanks to a fair decision that looked beyond the numbers to see the bigger picture.
