Quick Summary: Shahziya Shahbaz, a student from Rajasthan, missed her chance to register for MBBS/BDS courses due to illness. The court decided not to allow her late registration, sticking to strict deadlines.
Shahziya Shahbaz, a 20-year-old student from Kota, Rajasthan, hoped to join an MBBS/BDS program under the Management Quota 'B' category. Unfortunately, due to health issues, she couldn't report to her college on time. Now, she's eager to participate in the next round of counseling.
The court, led by Chief Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh and Justice G.M. Mohiuddin, heard Shahziya's request. Her lawyer, Sri L. Ram Singh, argued that her case should be considered like a similar case from August 2025. However, the university's lawyer, Sri T. Sharath, pointed out that the application deadline had passed, and the process had already started.
"The admission to MBBS/BDS course has a definite timeline required to be adhered to by the University," stated the court.
Kaloji Nararayana Rao University of Health Sciences emphasized that the Supreme Court's decision on the 'local candidate' issue had already set things in motion. Extending deadlines wasn't possible, as it would disrupt the entire process. The court agreed, saying it would be pointless to consider Shahziya's application now.
Although the court dismissed the request, they mentioned that if the registration dates are extended in the future, Shahziya can apply again. Her application would then be considered according to the rules.
"It goes without saying that in case the date of applications for registration to the above courses is extended, it would open for the petitioner to make such an application," the judges noted.
