Summary: Haniya Hyder, an 18-year-old student, can now apply for a different category in medical college admissions after a court decision. She wanted to switch to the NRI quota, and the court said she could do so by paying a late fee.
Haniya Hyder, a student from Telangana, wanted to change her application for medical college admissions. She initially applied under the Management Quota 'B' category. However, she decided she also wanted to apply under the Management Quota 'C/NRI' category. This change required her to approach the court.
The issue arose from a notice dated July 31, 2025, about admissions into MBBS/BDS courses in private medical colleges for the 2025-26 academic year. It stated that students applying under the Management Quota 'B' needed to submit their applications with relevant NRI documents and a late fee of Rs. 20,000 before the web options phase.
Haniya's case was heard by Chief Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh and Justice G.M. Mohiuddin. The court noted that the university's notice allowed students to submit their applications with the necessary documents and late fee after the merit list was displayed. This meant Haniya could apply under the 'C/NRI' category without needing a court order.
"The petitioner can avail of such option without any specific direction by this Court in this regard."
The court closed the case, allowing Haniya to choose the 'C/NRI' category. She needs to submit the required documents and pay the late fee after the merit list of previous counseling rounds is displayed.
The court's decision gives students like Haniya the chance to change their application categories. It makes sure students can make choices that best fit their educational goals, even if it means paying a late fee.
