Vijay, who was found guilty earlier this year, has been allowed to leave jail temporarily by the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court. The court decided to pause his punishment while they look at his case again.
Vijay was found guilty by the Special Court in Theni on February 14, 2025. He faced several accusations under the Indian Penal Code and the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989. This included a life sentence for charges under Section 307 IPC along with the SC/ST Act.
The decision to allow bail was made on December 15, 2025, by Judges G.K. Ilanthiraiyan and R. Poornima. They found that Vijay had a strong reason for pausing his punishment while his case is being reviewed.
"The petitioner has made out a prima facie case to grant suspension of sentence," stated the court.
Vijay's bail comes with conditions: - He must pay a bond of Rs. 10,000 with two people vouching for him. - He is required to show up at the trial court every month.
Vijay was represented by Senior Lawyer Mr. R. Shanmugasundaram, while The State of Tamilnadu was represented by Additional Public Lawyer Mr. R. Meenakshi Sundaram.
Vijay's appeal is still in progress, and he will need to follow the court's rules until a final decision is made.
