Summary: Rani, the first wife of the late K. Sundaram, successfully gets a legal heir certificate for her family after a court battle involving her husband's second family. Judge M. Dhandapani sets things right.
Rani was married to K. Sundaram in 1980 and had two kids. Sadly, one of their children, Nareshkumar, passed away in 2013. Sundaram later married Gowri in 1993, and they had two sons. After Sundaram died in 2025, Rani applied for a legal heir certificate.
Rani's application for the certificate was turned down. The reason? Both of Sundaram's wives were still alive. This led to a complicated situation where Rani had to go to court to sort things out.
"Rani applied for a legal heir certificate and paid necessary charges, however, it was rejected on the ground that both the wives of the deceased are alive."
In court, both Rani and Gowri showed up. Interestingly, Gowri agreed that the legal heir certificate should list Rani and her children. She even filed a written statement to support this.
Judge M. Dhandapani took note of Gowri's statement and decided to overturn the earlier rejection. He ordered the local government official to issue the certificate listing Rani and her children as Sundaram's legal heirs, within four weeks.
"The Tahsildar is directed to issue the legal heir certificate to Rani mentioning the name of Rani and her children as the legal heirs of the deceased."
The court wrapped up the case with no costs involved. Rani's fight for her rightful place in Sundaram's legacy was finally recognized.
