Summary: A group of people accused in a criminal case asked for police protection to attend court but faced issues because of a mix-up with the police. The court ended the contempt case but allowed for future action if needed.
The people involved, including Mr. Mohd Yousuf and Mr. Parshuram Gunjal, are part of a criminal case (S.C. No.164 of 2018) and needed police help to safely attend court. They had asked for this help through Tr.Crl.P.No.22 of 2023, which was approved by the court on December 8, 2023.
"The concerned Police are directed to give protection to the petitioners and their counsel..."
On January 5, 2024, the petitioners' lawyer sent a WhatsApp message to Mr. B. Abhilash, the Station House Officer at Nampally, asking for protection. Unfortunately, Mr. Abhilash was busy with his duties, and by the time he checked on the case, it had already been postponed.
Mr. M. Vivekananda Reddy, the Assistant Public Prosecutor, explained that Mr. Abhilash was on duty and only found out later that the court session was delayed. He assured the court that the police were ready to provide protection whenever needed.
Justice J. Sreenivas Rao decided that no further action was needed since the police said they would help in the future. However, if the petitioners have problems again, they can take further legal steps.
"Liberty is granted to the petitioners to avail appropriate remedies..."
The court ended the contempt case but allowed the petitioners to take further steps if needed.
