In a recent decision, the Delhi High Court, led by Justice Mini Pushkarna, decided not to allow new people to join a property dispute case. This case involves a piece of farmland in New Delhi, and the decision was made on February 25, 2026.
The main argument is between Rajive Sawhney and Devika Mehra. Rajive claims he owns the farmland based on deals from the early '90s with Devika's mother, Mrs. Veena Mehra. However, Devika argues against this, saying the documents are fake.
"The plaintiffs claim ownership based on Agreements to Sell supposedly signed by the mother of the defendant," said the court.
A group called the Maliks wanted to join the case, claiming they bought the land from Rajive in 2017. They argued that since they have control of the land, they should be part of the lawsuit. However, they were not included in the original deals with Mrs. Mehra.
The court decided not to mix the Maliks' situation with the ongoing argument between Rajive and Devika. Justice Mini Pushkarna stated that adding the Maliks would make things more complicated since there would be two separate issues in one case.
"The disputes... would be subject matter of separate proceedings," the judgment noted.
The court stressed that the Maliks' claims are different and should be handled on their own. The main focus is on whether Rajive has a right to the land based on the old deals.
The case will continue to focus on Rajive and Devika's argument. The next hearing is set for March 27, 2026.
The court's decision underlines the importance of keeping legal issues simple and separate, ensuring each person's rights are fairly considered without unnecessary complications.
