Sameer Ahmad gets bail in a case involving a homemade pistol.
On January 30, 2026, the Delhi High Court made a decision on a bail request for Sameer Ahmad. The case started when a homemade pistol was found with a man named Amit Kumar. During questioning, Amit claimed he bought the pistol from Sameer. This led to Sameer's involvement in the case under the Arms Act.
Sameer's lawyer argued that there wasn't any solid evidence against him except Amit's statement. The lawyer said Sameer was being wrongly accused. On the other side, the state's lawyer, Mr. Amit Ahlawat, admitted there wasn't much evidence besides Amit's confession. However, they mentioned a money transaction of Rs. 30,00,000 between Amit and Sameer, which raised suspicions.
Justice Girish Kathpalia looked at the evidence and decided there wasn't enough reason to keep Sameer in custody. The judge granted Sameer anticipatory bail. This means if Sameer gets arrested, he can be released on bail by paying Rs. 10,000 and providing a guarantee.
"I find no reason to deprive the accused/applicant liberty," said Justice Kathpalia.
Sameer must cooperate with the investigation. He has to join the investigation whenever the police ask him to. The judge made it clear that Sameer should follow these instructions carefully.
The court decided to grant Sameer Ahmad bail because there wasn't enough evidence to keep him in jail. The decision shows that just a confession, without more proof, may not be enough to take away someone's freedom.
