Summary: Pramod Bodkhe has been given a life sentence for killing his sister-in-law, Seema, in Yavatmal, Maharashtra. The court found him guilty of using an axe to commit the crime, driven by suspicions of an affair.
On January 28, 2018, Suraj Janardhan Pawar reported a violent attack on his sister, Seema, by Pramod Bodkhe. Suraj got a call saying that Pramod had hit Seema with an axe. When Suraj and his family got home, they found Seema hurt and took her to the hospital, where she died from her injuries. Pramod was arrested later, with evidence showing he tried to wash away bloodstains in the Painganga river.
The police gathered important evidence, including a blood-stained axe, broken bangles, and blood samples from the crime scene. The autopsy report confirmed that Seema died from severe head injuries, which matched an axe attack. Pramod was charged with murder under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code.
"The prosecution proved that Seema's death was a murder," the court stated.
During the trial, the prosecution brought in seven witnesses, including Seema's brother and a medical officer. The defense argued that Pramod didn't mean to kill Seema and that it happened because of a sudden fight. However, the court found the testimonies, especially from the eyewitness Anjanabai Chavan, believable. She saw Pramod attacking Seema and identified him in court.
The motive was that Pramod thought Seema was having an affair with Bharat Chavan. The court decided that Pramod's actions were planned and intentional, leading to Seema's death.
"The accused had a strong reason to kill Seema," the judgment noted.
Judges Anil L. Pansare and Siddheshwar S. Thombre upheld the conviction, dismissing Pramod's appeal. The life sentence and fine imposed by the Additional Sessions Judge were confirmed.
Pramod Bodkhe remains in prison, serving his life sentence for the murder of Seema.
