Summary: The High Court has dropped the charges against Bijjala Srinivas, who was accused of selling gutka in Telangana. Judge Tirumala Devi Eada decided that the charges didn't hold up according to the law.
Bijjala Srinivas, a businessman from Bhongir Town in Telangana, got into legal trouble. The police said he was selling gutka, a type of chewing tobacco, which was illegal. The case was filed under Crime No.320 of 2025 at the Bhongir Town Police Station.
Srinivas’s lawyer, Sri Burri Grahesh, argued that this case was like other cases where the court had already ruled in favor of the accused. He explained that selling gutka doesn’t fall under the serious charges that were brought against Srinivas.
"Selling gutka does not fall under Section 270 of IPC as it does not spread any infectious disease," the court explained.
Judge Tirumala Devi Eada looked over the case and saw that the charges against Srinivas were like other cases that had been thrown out. The court decided to drop the charges against him.
"The charges against the accused are hereby dropped."
With the case dropped, the court told the police to give back any items they took from Srinivas after checking them properly. This means Srinivas can now get back any goods or materials the police had taken during the investigation.
The court's decision is a big relief for Srinivas and sets an example for similar cases in the future. It confirms that the court is consistent in its decisions regarding the sale of gutka under the current laws.
