Quick Summary: A retired registrar's request to travel to the USA was denied by the court due to concerns about potential delays in his ongoing trial.
The person asking the court, Ravi Kumar, a retired Additional Registrar, was involved in a bribery case from 2010. He was let out of jail with rules that he couldn't leave Hyderabad without permission and had to give up his passport.
Recently, Ravi Kumar asked for permission to visit the USA from October 2025 to January 2026 for his son’s housewarming party. He filed requests to get his passport back temporarily, but the trial court turned down these requests.
Ravi Kumar's lawyer argued that as a retired government worker and someone who gets a pension, he wasn't likely to run away. He promised to come back and give back his passport after the trip.
"Ravi Kumar is a permanent resident of Hyderabad and there is no chance of running away."
The Special Public Prosecutor disagreed with the request, worrying that Ravi Kumar might not come back, which could delay the trial. The trial court agreed, highlighting the risk of slowing down the trial.
Justice Juvvadi Sridevi looked over the case and pointed out that Ravi Kumar hadn’t given specific travel details or supporting documents. The court suggested he could submit a new request with clear reasons and documents.
"The ends of justice would be met if liberty is granted to Ravi Kumar to file a fresh application."
The court closed the current case but allowed Ravi Kumar to try again with the right paperwork. The trial court will then decide based on the merits of the new application.
