In a recent decision, Judge Tirumala Devi Eada dismissed the case against Karnati Srinu, who was accused of selling Gutka, pointing out that similar cases were previously thrown out.
Karnati Srinu, a businessman from Ranga Reddy, was accused of selling banned Gutka packets. The charges were filed under sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
Srinu's lawyer, Sri Y. Bala Murali, argued that this case was similar to earlier cases where the court had already dismissed the charges. He referred to decisions like specific case numbers from 2024 and 2020 to support his argument.
"The matter is clearly covered by the orders of this honorable court," said Sri Y. Bala Murali.
Judge Eada agreed with the defense, pointing out that the accusations were similar to another case involving Chidurala Shyamsunder. In that case, the court had decided that selling Gutka doesn't fall under a law meant to stop the spread of infectious diseases.
The court ordered the police to give back any seized items to Karnati Srinu after checking them. This decision effectively ends the legal case against him.
"The proceedings against the petitioner/accused in Crime No.843 of 2025... are hereby quashed," Judge Eada declared.
This judgment shows the court's consistency in handling similar cases. It also provides relief to those facing charges for selling Gutka, as long as the situations match previous rulings.
