Hey folks! Here’s the scoop on a recent court decision that’s been making waves. The case is all about some missing jewels from way back in 2015. Let’s break it down!
So, here’s what happened. Back in 2015, there was a complaint about missing jewels. Fast forward to 2025, and the case still hadn’t been resolved. Vijayarani, the person who complained, was pretty upset because no final report had been filed. The police said they closed the case in 2017 since it was “undetected,” but the court wasn’t too happy about that.
"Even though the complaint was made in 2015 about the missing jewels, no action has been taken."
The case was heard by Judges N. Sathish Kumar and M. Jothiraman. They noticed that no final report was filed, so they ordered some action. The court asked the top police officer in the state to start disciplinary actions against 14 police station chiefs who were in charge from 2015 to 2025. They even sent warning notices to these officers.
The court also wanted to know about the Superintendents of Police (SPs) who were in charge from 2015. The Single Judge thought the SPs should have supervised the investigation better and wanted the top police officer to take disciplinary action against them too.
The Superintendents of Police weren’t too happy about this and appealed. The government lawyer argued that it wasn’t fair to blame the SPs for what the investigating officers didn’t do. The court agreed, saying it wasn’t right to hold the SPs accountable for the investigators’ mistakes.
"We believe that just because some officers didn’t follow the rules...that doesn’t mean the Superintendent of Police should be blamed."
In the end, the court decided that the Superintendents of Police shouldn’t face disciplinary action. They canceled that part of the Single Judge’s order but made it clear that other instructions should still be followed.
And there you have it! The court decided that while the investigation was mishandled, the blame shouldn’t fall on the SPs.
