Balaji, a prisoner at Central Prison-I in Puzhal, Chennai, was given a short emergency leave by the Madras High Court to help his mom with her knee surgery. Here's what happened.
Balaji, who is serving time at Central Prison-I, wanted to be there for his mom who needed knee replacement surgery. He asked for 15 days of emergency leave. However, the prison authorities initially said no. So, Balaji filed a legal request to challenge this decision.
The case was heard by Justice N. Sathish Kumar and Justice M. Jothiraman. The court found that Balaji had already used 6 days of emergency leave. According to the rules, he was now allowed only 3 more days.
"The convict prisoner Balaji is granted three days emergency leave," the court ordered.
Balaji's leave is from November 21 to November 23, 2025. During this time, he has to check in at the P6-Kondungayur Police Station in Chennai every day at 10:30 a.m. After the leave, he must return to the prison by 10:00 a.m. on November 24. The court made it clear that Balaji should use this leave only to help his mom and not for any other activities.
The court decided to grant Balaji 3 days of leave to support his mom during her surgery, while ensuring that he follows the rules set by the court.
