Quick Summary: A group of people from Coimbatore have been waiting for their land ownership papers, known as "patta," for years. The court has now ordered the authorities to sort it out within 12 weeks.
On December 16, 2025, the Madras High Court, with Judge Abdul Quddhose, heard a case involving four people: P. Nagammal, S. Loganathan, R. Kanagaraj, and M. Saraswathi. They live in Bharath Nagar, Pothanur, Coimbatore, and have been trying to get pattas for their properties.
P. Nagammal and the others have been contacting the authorities since 2015. They submitted several requests on dates like April 22, 2015, July 2, 2018, and multiple times in 2025. They argue that their properties were wrongly included in land limit rules, which were canceled by a 2010 court order.
"The land limit rules were canceled in 2010, but we still don't have our pattas," said P. Nagammal and the others.
The petitioners pointed out that another landowner, R. Manjula, was in a similar situation. She got her patta after a court order in 2023. They argued that they should be treated the same way.
The court agreed with P. Nagammal and the others. Judge Abdul Quddhose directed the State of Tamil Nadu and its officials in Chennai and Coimbatore to issue the pattas within 12 weeks, referencing a government order from April 21, 2025.
"The authorities must act within 12 weeks," ordered the court.
P. Nagammal and the others are now waiting to see if the authorities will follow the court's order. They hope to finally receive their pattas and close this long chapter.
This case highlights the struggles of landowners in dealing with bureaucratic delays and the role of court actions to ensure fairness.
