Here's the situation: Ramesh Iyer was threatened with arrest by the Chennai Police without any crime being officially reported. The court says the police need to follow the rules before taking any action.
Ramesh went to court because the police were threatening to arrest him. They sent him a notice on September 25, 2025, and he responded by September 27, 2025. Ramesh argued this was unfair and went against his rights under Article 21 of the Indian Constitution. He wanted the court to stop the police from arresting him without proper evidence.
"Declare the high handed action... as illegal, arbitrary, unconstitutional and a violation of Article 21."
Ramesh's lawyer mentioned a similar case, W.P.No.30019 of 2025, where the court told the police to follow the law before acting. They hoped for a similar result here.
"Directing the respondents to follow due procedure contemplated under law before taking any further action."
Justice N.V. Shravan Kumar agreed with the previous order. The court told the police to follow legal procedures before doing anything else. Ramesh must also cooperate with the inquiry.
"Ramesh Iyer shall cooperate with the enquiry."
The court wrapped up the case by directing the police to stick to the rules. No costs were ordered, and any pending applications were closed.
