Summary: A student, Kasula Aashrith, asked for more time to sign up for MBBS/BDS courses under the Management Quota "B" category. The court turned down the request, stressing that deadlines must be followed strictly.
Kasula Aashrith, a 19-year-old student, asked for permission to sign up online for MBBS/BDS courses under the Management Quota "B" category for the 2025-2026 school year. He missed the first deadline and wanted to join the current or next round of counseling.
"By mistake, the student couldn't sign up for admission under Management Quota 'B' category."
The university, represented by Mr. T. Sharath, argued that the deadline for signing up had passed and the counseling process had already started on September 15, 2025. They stressed that extending the deadline would mess up the planned schedule, which was confirmed by a Supreme Court decision on September 1, 2025.
"The last date for signing up has ended... It would be pointless to extend it."
The Chief Justice Apresh Kumar Singh and Justice G.M. Mohiuddin looked over the case. They decided not to tell the university to consider Kasula Aashrith's late application, highlighting the need to stick to the admission schedule.
"The deadlines for applying or counseling are very important."
The court mentioned that if the sign-up dates were extended in the future, Kasula Aashrith could apply again, and his application would be looked at according to the rules.
"If the sign-up dates are extended, the student can apply again."
The writ petition was dismissed, meaning Kasula Aashrith's request was denied, and no costs were ordered. The court emphasized the importance of sticking to strict deadlines in the admission process.
