Quick Summary: A student, M G Sree Gayathri, wants to be considered a "Local Candidate" for medical admissions in Telangana. The court allows her to make her case, but no promises are made.
M G Sree Gayathri, a 21-year-old from Hyderabad, filed a request. She wants to be considered a "Local Candidate" for MBBS/BDS courses in Telangana. The other parties involved are the State of Telangana and Kaloji Narayan Rao University of Health Sciences.
Gayathri studied up to 10th grade in Madras and then moved to Hyderabad. She completed her Intermediate studies in Hyderabad during 2020-22 and took the EAMCET-2023 and NEET-2024 exams. Her lawyer argues that her four consecutive years in Hyderabad should qualify her as a local candidate under G.O.Ms.No.150 dated 08.09.2025.
"She fulfills the requirement prescribed in G.O.Ms.No.150," her lawyer insists.
The university's lawyer points out that the rules require continuous study or stay. Studying outside Telangana is allowed only if her parents fit certain categories, which she doesn't meet. However, they agree to consider her case if she makes a request.
"If the petitioner makes any request, the respondents shall consider the same in accordance with law," says the university's lawyer.
The judges, Chief Justice Apresh Kumar Singh and Justice G.M. Mohiuddin, didn't comment on whether Gayathri's claim was strong or weak. They allowed her to make a request to the university, which must consider it within two days. No costs were ordered.
"We resolve the request with freedom for the petitioner to make a request," the court stated.
Gayathri now has the chance to present her case to the university. It's up to them to decide if she qualifies as a local candidate. The court's decision gives her a shot, but no guarantees.
