When Arshiya Javeed missed her chance to enroll in a medical or dental course, she hoped for another opportunity. But the court had a different opinion. In this post, we'll explain what happened and why the court decided against her.
Arshiya Javeed, a 20-year-old student from Hyderabad, missed the deadline to report to college for a spot she was given under a specific category. She wanted to join the next round of selections for the 2025-26 school year.
"Because of a simple mistake, she couldn't report to the college on time."
Her lawyer argued that the university should consider her case, just like they did for another student in a similar situation.
The Kaloji Nararayana Rao University of Health Sciences, represented by their lawyer, stated that the application deadline had passed. They couldn't extend it since the selection process had already started. This was following a Supreme Court decision that resolved the 'local candidate' issue.
"The University would not be able to consider the student's application for registration."
The judges, Chief Justice Sri Aparesh Kumar Singh and Justice G.M. Mohiuddin, decided that the admission deadlines were strict and must be followed. They saw no reason to ask the university to make an exception for Arshiya.
"The admission to medical or dental courses has a specific timeline that must be followed."
Arshiya's lawyer mentioned that if the application dates were extended in the future, she should be allowed to apply. The court agreed, stating she could apply if the dates changed.
"If the application dates are extended, the student can apply then."
In the end, the request was denied, and Arshiya was left hoping for a change in dates to get another chance.
