Summary: Shaik Jarina, arrested for possessing a large amount of ganja, was granted bail by the Madras High Court. Justice T.V. Thamilselvi considered her long time in jail and the slow progress of her trial.

Arrest and Charges

Back in May 2024, Shaik Jarina and her husband were caught with a huge 29 kgs of ganja near Tambaram Railway Marriage Hall. The police acted on a tip-off and found the drugs in a trolley. They were charged under several parts of the NDPS Act.

Defense Arguments

Shaik Jarina's lawyer argued that she was wrongly accused. He claimed she had no role in the crime and had been stuck in jail for over a year without any trial progress. This was her third attempt to get bail.

"She is innocent and has not committed any crime," her lawyer insisted.

Prosecution's Stand

The prosecution opposed bail, pointing out the large amount of ganja seized. They were worried that Shaik Jarina might interfere with witnesses if released. They also mentioned her involvement in similar past cases.

Court's Decision

Justice T.V. Thamilselvi noted the long time Shaik Jarina had been in jail and that the investigation was complete. She decided to grant bail with strict conditions:

  • Bond: Rs. 10,000 with two people to vouch for her, one local and one from her hometown.
  • Regular Reporting: Shaik Jarina must check in with the police every other day for three months.
  • No Crime or Tampering: She must not commit similar crimes or mess with evidence.

"If any conditions are broken, appropriate action will be taken," the court warned.

Conditions for Bail

The court set several conditions to ensure Shaik Jarina follows the rules, including regular police check-ins and restrictions on her actions during the trial.
