A recent court case in Madras has directed local authorities to survey and mark the boundaries of a disputed property in Salem District. Here's what happened.
On December 15, 2025, Judge Abdul Quddhose of the Madras High Court handled a case involving P. Balasubramani, who wanted his property boundaries marked in Yercaud, Salem District. He had applied online for this service on September 11, 2025, but nothing happened, leading to this court petition.
P. Balasubramani asked the court to tell the local land officer and the Head Surveyor of Yercaud Taluk to measure his land and put boundary markers. His property is located in Keeraikadu Village, and he had submitted his request through an online application with specific receipt numbers.
"Telling the 2nd and 3rd respondent to measure the petitioner's property and set the boundary markers..."
The court ordered the authorities to act within 12 weeks. Before starting the survey, they must notify neighboring landowners and consider any objections. This ensures a fair process and addresses concerns from nearby property owners.
The court also mentioned that if needed, the police could help with the survey. This step ensures the survey can be conducted smoothly without any disruptions.
"If the need arises for police help... the fourth respondent shall provide police assistance..."
The court decided that the local authorities must survey and mark the boundaries of the property within 12 weeks, ensuring that neighboring landowners are informed and any objections are considered. If necessary, police assistance will be provided to carry out the survey smoothly.
