Let's dive into the recent court case where N.D. Rajan sought to cancel a land ownership document in Chengalpattu District, Tamil Nadu. Here's what happened.
On January 22, 2026, N.D. Rajan filed a request in the High Court of Madras. He wanted the court to tell The Tahsildar of Thirukazhukundram, Chengalpattu District, to cancel a land ownership document given to Xavier Britto and Vimalarani Britto. This request was based on a representation made on April 22, 2022.
Justice Abdul Quddhose was in charge of the case. The court noticed that N.D. Rajan should have asked the Revenue Divisional Officer (RDO) for this instead of The Tahsildar. The Special Government Pleader, Mr. D. Ravichander, pointed this out, suggesting a mistake in the process.
"The petitioner will have to submit an application seeking for cancellation of patta to the concerned Revenue Divisional Officer."
In response, the court decided to include the Revenue Divisional Officer of Chengalpattu in the case. This was done to make sure N.D. Rajan's request was looked at by the right person.
The court told N.D. Rajan to submit a new application to the newly involved RDO within two weeks. This application should ask for the cancellation of the land ownership document given to the Brittos. The RDO is then expected to look at this application and make a decision within 12 weeks.
"The newly impleaded fourth respondent shall pass orders, on merits and in accordance with law."
The court decided that N.D. Rajan needs to direct his request to the right authority, which is the Revenue Divisional Officer. He has to submit a new application to them, and they will make a decision based on the details of the case.
