Hey everyone! Here's the latest scoop from the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court. A local resident, Shanmugapandiyan, got the green light to host a New Year’s celebration in Karur District. Let’s dive into the details!
Shanmugapandiyan, who lives in Periyar Nagar, North Gandhi Gramam, wanted to organize a fun-filled New Year event. He planned a sports and cultural program, called Aadalum Padalum, at EB Colony near the bus stop in Gandhi Gramam North, Pasupathipalayam. He submitted his request to the authorities on December 20, 2025.
The case was heard by Judge M. Jothiraman on December 26, 2025. The main issue was that the local police hadn't responded to Shanmugapandiyan's request, so he asked the court to help get things moving.
Mr. T. Senthil Kumar, the lawyer for the police, said they didn’t mind the event as long as it didn’t cause any trouble. The police wanted assurance that everything would be peaceful.
"The respondents have no objection, provided Shanmugapandiyan undertakes to conduct the said programme without causing any law and order issues."
The court agreed that the event could go ahead on January 1, 2026, from 7:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. The judge told the police to consider Shanmugapandiyan’s request and ensure public safety. The police might even provide protection if needed.
"Shanmugapandiyan shall also ensure that no law and order problem is created during the cultural programme and that no obscene acts are permitted."
With these instructions, the court wrapped up the case. Now, the residents of Karur can look forward to a lively New Year celebration. Kudos to Shanmugapandiyan for taking the initiative!
