Summary: Sankar, accused of attempting a crime under the POCSO Act, has been granted bail with strict conditions by the High Court of Madras.
Sankar, son of Murugan, was involved in a legal case where he was accused of trying to assault a young girl in Dharmapuri. The incident reportedly happened when the girl went outside for a bathroom break, and Sankar allegedly approached her with bad intentions. The girl managed to resist, and a case was filed against him.
The accusations were serious. Sankar was said to have tried to cover the victim's mouth and acted similarly with another woman in the area. He was arrested and had been in jail since July 6, 2025.
"The accused came near the victim with sexual intention," the court documents stated.
Sankar's lawyer argued that he was wrongly accused and had nothing to do with the alleged crime. The prosecution, however, had recorded the victim's statement and claimed that Sankar had hidden and suddenly appeared to commit the act.
Judge T.V. Thamilselvi decided to grant bail to Sankar with several conditions, considering he had been in jail for over 70 days and the investigation was complete.
Bail Amount: Sankar must pay Rs.10,000 with two people vouching for him, one being a family member.
Residence and Reporting: He must stay in Salem and check in with the police every day for two months, then every Saturday.
Deposit: A sum of Rs.20,000 must be set aside for the victim's emotional distress, which she can withdraw.
No Contact: Sankar is not allowed to contact the victim.
No Tampering: He must not mess with evidence or witnesses.
Non-Absconding: He should not run away during the investigation or trial.
"If the accused runs away, a new police report can be filed," the court warned.
Sankar has been granted bail under strict conditions to ensure he does not cause any more problems and to protect the victim's interests. The court's decision was made after considering all the facts and the end of the investigation.
