In a recent court decision, Lalita Devi was given 7 more months to run her food stall at Prayagraj Railway Station. This decision was made by Judge Mini Pushkarna of the Delhi High Court.
Lalita Devi had permission to run a food stall at Platform No. 1 of Prayagraj Railway Station, which was supposed to end on January 1, 2026. She got this permission on August 12, 2020, for five years.
Lalita Devi's situation isn't new. The court has given similar extensions before. For example, in the case of Sadeek Ali vs. Union of India, they also got 7 more months. Judge Pushkarna mentioned these past decisions to support her ruling.
"This Court sees no reason to take a different view from the orders passed earlier."
There was a discussion about whether the Delhi High Court could handle the case. It was explained that since the Railway Board is in Delhi, the court could consider the request. The rules for catering are the same all over India, which helped in making the decision.
Lalita Devi agreed to leave the stall after the 7-month extension. She must submit a written promise within four weeks to confirm this. If she doesn't leave, the authorities can remove her things.
The court made it clear that Lalita Devi's extra time doesn't stop the Railways from looking for new people to run the stall after the extra time is over.
The court's decision shows its commitment to treating similar cases fairly and consistently.
