Summary: Jain Healthcare Centre in Mehrauli, New Delhi, was denied a new electricity connection because of claims that they built something without permission. The court told them to apply again with the correct paperwork.
On December 2, 2025, Jain Healthcare Centre asked the Delhi High Court for a new electricity meter for their building at 537/5, Matushri Bhawan, Doodh Wali Gali, Mehrauli, New Delhi. They needed this connection to put in an elevator, which is important for their work.
BSES Rajdhani Power Ltd, the company that provides electricity, turned down the request. They said the building was marked for construction done without permission. On April 16, 2025, they sent a letter pointing out problems, mainly that there was no proof of ownership.
Justice Mini Pushkarna talked about earlier cases, saying that buildings marked for unauthorized construction can still get electricity. The court pointed out:
"Electricity connection shall not be disconnected... even though the same are booked for unauthorized construction."
This was based on earlier situations where action against unauthorized construction was delayed for various reasons.
The court told Jain Healthcare Centre to submit a new application, including ownership papers. They made it clear that existing unauthorized connections shouldn't stop the new application process.
The court instructed that once the new application is received, BSES Rajdhani Power Ltd should handle it according to the rules. Justice Mini Pushkarna wrapped up the case with these instructions, allowing the healthcare center to apply again without any bias.
