Blessing Amaka Okonko's request to be released from jail while waiting for her trial was turned down by the Bombay High Court on December 3, 2025. She was arrested for charges related to drugs in Mumbai. Here's what happened.

The Arrest on New Year’s Day

On December 31, 2022, Mumbai's Anti Narcotics Cell (ANC) got a tip about drugs being sold in the city. They found two suspicious men near Mahim-Sion Link Road. After questioning, they arrested Nitin Adsul and Reddy Mallesh with 150 grams of Mephedrone (MD).

Blessing's Involvement

The arrested men said that Blessing Okonko was the one who supplied the drugs. Early on January 1, 2023, the police found Blessing with 460 grams of MD in her jacket pocket. She was arrested immediately.

Bail Application Rejected

Blessing asked to be let out on bail in March 2025, but it was denied. Her lawyer, Mr. Khushal Parmar, argued that the police didn't follow the right steps. He said there was no evidence connecting her to the crime through phone calls or messages.

Court's Decision

Judge Dr. Neela Gokhale looked over the case. The police had followed the rules, and Blessing's search was done properly. The judge noted that Blessing's visa had expired, making her likely to run away. The amount of drugs found was also a large amount, which is serious.

Key Points from the Court

  • Following the Rules: The police followed the rules of the NDPS Act.
  • Visa Issue: Blessing was staying in India without a valid visa.
  • Serious Charges: Having a large amount of drugs.

Summary of the Verdict

The court did not find any reason to believe that Blessing was innocent and denied her request for bail. The trial will continue, and she remains in jail. The judge pointed out the seriousness of drug trafficking and the risk of doing it again.
