In a recent court decision, Judge Tirumala Devi Eada addressed a case about animal cruelty. The person who asked the court to stop the case against him, Mr. Raghav Sharma, found out that the court had other plans.
Mr. Raghav Sharma, the second person accused, filed his request under Section 528 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023 (BNSS). The case, listed as Crime No. 169 of 2025, involved supposed violations under Section 11 of The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960 (PCAA).
Both sides shared their points of view. Mr. Soma Ravi Kiran Reddy, Mr. Sharma’s lawyer, asked the court to tell the police to continue with the investigation. Mr. Jithender Rao Veeramalla, the lawyer for the state, agreed with this request.
"The court listened to both sides and decided on the next steps," said Judge Tirumala Devi Eada.
Judge Eada pointed out that the accusations under Section 11 of PCAA come with a punishment of less than seven years. So, she told Mr. Sharma to meet with the police officer in charge of the investigation by November 21, 2025. The officer has to follow the rules under Section 35(3) of BNSS.
The court stressed the importance of following the rules set by the Supreme Court in a previous case. Mr. Sharma was told to fully cooperate with the investigation and provide all necessary documents.
"The person who filed the petition must cooperate and submit all relevant information," Judge Eada repeated.
The court ordered that the investigation should continue and instructed Mr. Sharma to cooperate with the police. The case was officially closed, along with any other related requests.
