Quick Summary: Gaddameedi Pragathi, a student from Telangana, missed the payment deadline for her medical college seat. She approached the court to allow her participation in the upcoming mop-up counseling round.
Gaddameedi Pragathi, a 19-year-old student, wanted to join the MBBS/BDS course for the 2025-26 academic year. She was given a seat at Medicity Institute of Medical Sciences after taking part in counseling from October 4-6, 2025. However, she couldn't pay the required fee of ₹12,00,000 by the deadline of October 13, 2025, at 2:00 p.m.
"She could not arrange funds for payment of fee of ₹12,00,000 by 2:00 p.m. on or before 13.10.2025."
Pragathi went to court, asking for permission to join the mop-up round of counseling, which hadn't started yet. She wanted another chance to secure a seat in the medical course despite missing the initial payment deadline.
The University, represented by Sri L. Ravi, said that if Pragathi made a formal request, it would be looked at according to the rules. This means the university is open to reviewing her case within a set of guidelines.
"If the petitioner has made a representation, it can be disposed of within the stipulated time in accordance with law."
The court, led by Chief Justice Sri Aparesh Kumar Singh and Justice G.M. Mohiuddin, chose not to go into the details of the case. Instead, they instructed the university to consider Pragathi's request dated October 14, 2025, within two weeks.
"The representation of the petitioner dated 14.10.2025 be considered by the University in accordance with law within a period of two (2) weeks."
The court decided that the university should review Pragathi's request to join the mop-up round within two weeks, giving her a chance to still pursue her medical studies.
