In a recent decision, the Madras High Court told the police to finish their investigation in a pending case within four weeks. Here's what happened.
The case is about a request made by M. Ranjithaa. She asked the court to tell the police to finish their investigation and submit a final report for Crime No.290 of 2024. This investigation has been taking too long, and Ranjithaa wants it completed.
M. Ranjithaa, through her lawyer Mr. S. Shanmugam, argued that the investigation was taking too much time. Even though a complaint was filed, no final report was ready yet. This delay led Ranjithaa to ask the court for help.
"The investigation in this case is still pending and no final report has been filed till date," said Ranjithaa's lawyer.
The police, represented by Government Lawyer Mr. R. Vinothraja, assured the court that they were still working on the investigation. They promised to finish it and file the report within four weeks.
Judge N. Sathish Kumar listened to both sides and decided to give the police a deadline. He ordered them to finish the investigation and submit the final report within four weeks. The court also told the police to keep the person who complained updated about the progress.
"The second respondent Police is directed to complete the investigation and file a final report... within a period of four weeks from the date of receipt of a copy of this order."
The police now have a month to finish the investigation. This decision aims to ensure timely justice and prevent unnecessary delays in the legal process.
