Quick Summary: Raja Kumar's request to be released from jail while waiting for his trial was denied by the Delhi High Court. He was caught with 23.900 kg of ganja, and the court thought the evidence against him was strong.
On April 11 and 12, 2025, Raja Kumar was arrested in Delhi with a large amount of ganja. The police found 23.900 kg of the drug hidden in a white plastic bag on a scooter. This led to his arrest under laws related to illegal drugs.
"Raja Kumar was arrested on the spot with 23.900 kg ganja," said Judge Girish Kathpalia.
The case was heard by Judge Girish Kathpalia. Raja Kumar asked to be released on bail, arguing that the police did not handle the seized ganja properly. His lawyers claimed that the delay in sending the drugs to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) was suspicious.
The ganja was sent to the FSL on April 17, 2025. The report confirmed the substance as ganja. Judge Kathpalia noted that the delay was only a few days and didn't affect the investigation.
"There is no delay on the part of the investigating agency," the judge stated.
On January 20, 2026, the court decided not to let Raja Kumar out on bail. Judge Kathpalia concluded that the evidence was strong and the delay in sending the ganja to the FSL was not significant enough to allow bail.
"Considering the above circumstances, I do not find it a fit case to release Raja Kumar on bail at this stage," Judge Kathpalia ruled.
Raja Kumar remains in custody, and the case continues as the court seeks to ensure justice is served.
